Lately I've been thinking about love and its meaning. We all use the word love on a daily basis. Whether we mean it or not is a whole different story. Just as my first post, I have looked up the definition of Love on dictionary.com and this is what I have come up with...
Love. noun.
1.) a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2.) a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
3.) sexual passion or desire.
1-2.) This is the love that I think about when this word is used or ever put into actions. I currently have a boyfriend. Austin. I can't even describe how in love I am with him. It's because of how he treats me. I'm his little girl, his little angel, his sweetheart, his mush, the love of his life, and his dork. The affection that he has for me and how he puts it into actions shows how much love he has for me.
3.) A sexual passion or desire? Since when is love all about having sex? Love is something pure and beautiful and far beyond what this world has made it out to be. Sooooooooo..... in the scheme of things.....dictionary.com...... you are wrong.
4.) As you can see by looking above. *go ahead look at how many definitions there are*, there aren't four. Why not mention God's love dictionary.com. It's the strongest, most pure, most beautiful love out there.
I was recently given this book titled "God's promises for Graduates." It consists of various topics, to name a few, comfort, confidence, contentment, discipline, encouragement, faith, forgiveness and among them the love of God. After you find the topic of your choice, the book lists Bible verses and what the Bible says on these topics. Anyways....the Love of God.....
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
-"I would take a bullet for you....blahblahblah." GOD DIED FOR YOUR SINS. This person may take a bullet for you but their love will never be as strong as the love that he had and still has for us. He died on the cross, and shed his blood just for us, because he wanted to set us free, free from the sin that so easily holds us back.
God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). Ephesians 2:4-5
-Middle school and High school is all about impressing one another. Who can get the hottest boyfriend, who acquires their first kiss first, who has the most friends. We spend these 7 years working on our appearance and "perfecting it" ----> "perfecting it." God created us, He made us beautiful in His image, so it's not vogue's, teen vogue's, seventeen, or cosmopolitans place to tell us to change. We are beautiful in His eyes, and that's really all that should matter. In order to reach the popularity we all want, changes and sacrifices have to be made. Grace. WE HAVE BEEN SAVED THROUGH GRACE! We don't have to change our outward appearance in order to be loved by God. This world has taught us to change to be loved. Well just as dictionary.com was wrong, the world is too. =].
Let love be without hypocrisy.Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate towards one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another. Romans 12:9-10
HMMMMMMMMMMMM.... "Let love be without hypocrisy..." Let's not be hypocrites. In today's society everyone (including myself) throw around the word love as if it's no big deal. Let's try to use that word when we really mean it. Love is love....mean it or don't use it.
*hmmmm i should really take my own advice.*
aaaaanyways this isn't supposed to be an advice column, just what really is going on in my mind, whether my thoughts are jumbled or not, which they usually are. Remember God's love is the greatest love out of them all. When your feeling alone or unloved, just think... He shed His blood for our sins so we can have freedom. Live your lives for God, because after all, He loves you, and that's a fact. <3
Jen - It's so awesome to read your blog and see how strong in the Lord you are! And I really should read verses like this more often. Crazy that 9 years after high school, getting married to an amazing man, and having 2 children, I STILL worry about what others will think of how I look. These verses are great reminders of who we should be looking to find our confidence in. Thanks :)
